Merry Christmas all...

Suzie’s Walkies would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We want to share with you our top tips for your precious pooches this holiday season and make you aware of the dangers for dogs at Christmas. As we relax and over indulge in lots of yummy Christmas foods and drinks you might think ‘let’s treat the doggies’ too, but unfortunately you might not be treating them at all.

These following festive favourites contain harmful toxins that are poisonous to dogs and could leave them very unwell…

  • Grapes

  • Christmas cake

  • Alcohol

  • Nuts

  • Mince pies

  • Cooked bones

  • Onions and garlic

  • Chocolate

  • Sugar

You must think if you feel like giving into those puppy dog eyes and slipping a mince pie under the table so might the over 10 people around the table and that is going to result in one very full and unwell dog! However, it is Christmas and they do deserve some treats so why not add some leftover meat into their food or wrap up some yummy dog treats for them to open and enjoy. Try not to slip into bad habits by feeding them treats from the table as they will get into the routine of begging. Make them sit where they are given their food and treat them there. Just like us everything in moderation is fine.

Again, just like us if they are eating more than usual a little exercise wouldn’t go a miss so do both of you a favour and take the time out for a nice brisk winter walk. Take a ball to play fetch and really get them running!

Christmas decorations may not appear dangerous but those bubals hanging off the tree can cause some damage! When smashed, they are very sharp and could easily cut paws, mouths and any other soft tissue area. Smaller decorations are a choking hazard and not to mention the electric shock they would receive if the wire was chewed! Hopefully this Christmas you won’t discover your dog with a fallen Christmas tree on top of them!

Just take care and enjoy a wonderful Christmas with your precious pooch.
